Age limits are being mentioned again for politicians in the United States.

Is it time for those to pass the torch onto the next generation?

One argument against such age restrictions is that these individuals spend years building their careers and making connections and with that network firmly established they can be more effective at doing their job and passing legislation. But is this within the best interest of the people? Are they really doing a lot of good with those supposed connections that they have fostered?

Others have pointed out that many of those politicians have taken the opportunity to enrich themselves in a variety of ways and they are relatively out of touch with many Americans.

Lobbying efforts see billions going into campaigns and being directed toward fostering political influence. Could this be why some have alleged that the U.S. operates more like an oligarchy than anything else?

At 80+ years old critics say they should be in a nursing home rather than working on legislation that impacts communities around the country for generations to come.

Previously, surveys have found that many Americans do support a maximum age limit for representatives.

The idea is popular with many so why isn't more being done to implement the change? The average age of senators in the country for example is around 65.

Why are they so reluctant to retire?

If anyone else were performing in such a manner at their job with repeated freezing you might assume they wouldn't have that job for much longer. Maybe some of those representatives and their ideas are a bit outdated.

Advocates of such a change with age limits have suggested that this is what is needed to make the country stronger.
