There was a time
when this weekend
would be planned
months in advance
Whispers of locations
riding the wave of
excitement until that
Friday afternoon arrived
Singing voices
music filling the sky
amidst the flankers
shooting off like
homemade fireworks
Celebrating friends
faces barely visible
among firelight and stars
creating memories
that warm the heart
But coolness sets in as you
walk away from the fire
and into the night
leaving the memories
behind
Until years later
you wonder why
you walked away so quickly
because you would give anything
to sit there again
