In the old days before young parents knew everything, parents would attempt to lead their children by command. Telling children what to do and what to think was quite normal behavior in the 1950’s. In the 1960’s parents swung to the other extreme of allowing their children to grow totally natural without any discipline. For a while this was debated socially until a blazingly bright bit of insight broke on the scene. People suspected that leading by example might work.
The best way to teach children is by example. Watch me and do as I do.
Some (a rare few) had a tough time cleaning up their own lives, but the well-being of children was sufficient motivation for parents everywhere to change. There were even stories of parents in Germany who quit drinking beer just to eliminate alcohol consumption from the lives of their children. Smoking dwindled through legislation and the use of the patch. Drug use by parents is still a problem, but most parents try to hide it from their children.
The point is... new people learn from old people. New Steemians learn from old Steemians. Finding successful role models is the best way to learn.
