Introduce Yourself - Sharon from California! (@dnomadquest)
Hello Steemians! I realize I never wrote the introduce yourself post that you're supposed to do when you get started on Steemit. So here goes!
My name is Sharon and I guess I consider myself an entrepreneur, traveler, a wannabe spiritual person lol, digital nomad, and singer/songwriter/musician.
I moved from Hong Kong when I was around 2 to the Bay Area, where I grew up doing the whole strive for a prestigious degree and a distinguished career. I was kind of blindly following what society wanted me to do, until after a few years of full-time office work that I realized I was worn out and bored with life. On the side I would try to keep myself sane with music. One of my passions is creating and playing songs, with examples of my old work on YouTube:
Don't get me wrong, I was, and still am, EXTREMELY grateful to have the opportunities and privilege I have. I would be an asshole if I didn't realize how truly blessed I am.
But something didn't feel right. I would work 8 hours at the office, only to go home to work the rest of the day on my music. Even with working so hard after my full-time job, I felt I didn't have enough time to master any one thing. I had so many interests and passions, but I was watching myself work my life away with barely any time to accomplish the things I wanted to do.
I decided I needed to do a little getaway. So I did a month-long solo Europe trip in 2014, and post-trip I realized that if I want to live out my dream life, my reality is in my own hands. If I wanted to follow my passions and really experience what the world has to offer, I had to grab life by its horns. So I studied book after book, video after video, blog after blog, to fully understand how to create my path. I hated trading my time for money as time is one of the most precious, valuable things we have in life. After reading books like Rich Dad Poor Dad, 4-Hour Workweek, and browsing SmartPassiveIncome, I understood more and more the concept of financial freedom + passive income and how it all made sense. To create time for myself I had to make money work for me. I wanted to become a digital nomad fighting for financial freedom to give myself time to pursue all the large dreams I had.
I bought myself a one-way ticket to Stockholm for May of 2016 to travel the world and build my online businesses. It was one of the scariest leaps I had ever made in my life. But in my head, it was now or never.
Fastforward to 2018, and I'm currently in Hong Kong, ready to fly over to Chiang Mai in a couple of hours. I am still working on myself, my passive income, my passions, and more. I feel I have grown a lot within the past 2 years. In these last two years I have visited Stockholm, Athens, Naxos, Santorini, Bucharest, Cluj, Porto, Lisbon, Berlin, London, Hong Kong, Seoul, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei (and using geographical arbitrage, I spent much less than I would have if I lived in the Bay Area). I've also been building online businesses through Etsy, Amazon, and Shopify. It has been a wild ride, to say the least.
I've been documenting my travels on MeWantTravel and teaching people how to build passive income through DigitalNomadQuest. These blogs also sort of hold me accountable and help me document my journey.
In the future, I just want to create more and more. I hope to pursue some interests of mine ranging from music, art, and video games to real estate investing and creating solutions for underprivileged communities. I also hope to keep growing as a person, aiming to become a conscious, awakened being.
