Callaloo is veggie much like spinach. It’s very popular in Jamaica as a healthy, tasty and filling source of vitamins and minerals.

So I recently I got some sent to me from Jamaica in cans. This is the first time I actually tried Callaloo like this and obviously it just isn’t as good as the fresh plant. If I were living in Jamaica I’d laugh if someone told me they have callaloo in a can. In Jamaica the plant grows so easily.

Above is what a callaloo dish would look like in Jamaica. Boiled dumplings, green bananas or food from the earth such as yam and potatoes.

The Callaloo can I tested, my wife made a Callaloo, tuna and cream pasta. The only thing I didn’t like about the meal was you couldn’t tell it was callaloo by the looks of it. The canned callaloo also has a pale green look compared to the fresh plant. The pasta was tasty though. I also made a callaloo toast sandwich for breakfast.

If you can’t get fresh Callaloo this will do. It’s best to season up the callaloo like Jamaicans usually do but it being in the can, I think it needs even more sprucing up. Enjoy your Sunday .... Monday ?
