When I graduated, I felt the need to limit my budget for meals; to be precise: 20 dollars per week. One day, when I approached the box, I suspected that the purchase would be a little more than the money I had left. When I get to $ 20, stop, I told the cashier, and I was able to buy everything, except a bag of peppers.
When I was about to leave, a man stopped by my car, and said: Here are your peppers, miss, and he gave me the bag. Before I could thank him, he was gone.
It still moves me to remember this simple act of kindness, and it brings to mind the words of Jesus in Matthew 6. When condemning those who boasted of giving to the needy (verse 2), Jesus taught his disciples another way Act. Instead of focusing the action on them and their generosity, he urged them to do so in secret, as if his left hand did not know that the right is giving! (v. 3)
As that anonymous person reminded me, we should not be the focus of the gift. The only reason to give is because of what our generous God has given us in abundance (2 Corinthians 9: 6-11). By giving in silence and with generosity, we reflect his Person ... and God receives the gratitude that He alone deserves (v. 11).
