Last year I visited Taxila which is located in Punjab, Pakistan and north west if Islamabad. I visited the Taxila museum. The stupa and other handicraft shops on our ways which was worth visiting. I really enjoy that trip and want to share with you all.
The Taxila Museum is an archaeological museum in Taxila, Punjab, located among the ruins of the ancient Taxila Valley. And it supervised under UN archeological sites. It is especially famous for its remarkable collection of Gandharan civilisation which is considered one of the oldest civilisations in the world and Indus valley civilisation along with indus river many stone and stucco sculptures, Buddhist relics, coins, jewelry, pottery, tools, inscriptions, and architectural pieces have been discovered in all this time.
The museum’s history goes back to 1918 and its foundation stone was laid by archaeologist Sir John Marshall. It’s Construction was completed in 1928, and the museum was established to preserve the history and culture of this place and bhuddism.
I visited The Dharmarajika Stupa which is one of the most famous stupas in Taxila and is more profound .It was built during the 2nd century bc and has its association with Emperor Ashoka who promoted Buddhism across this region near Indus Valley
It was a major Buddhist religious and pilgrimage site. Many foreigners and Buddhists were doing their rituals and prayers.The large central stupa was surrounded by small room like structures where monks used to sit and pray
Archaeologists found Buddhist sculptures, coins and other remains around the complex. Even we saw coins with the structure of Alexander on it. The site shows how important Buddhism and Taxila were as a center of learning and culture. Still many profound universities of Pakistan are located in Taxila Taxila is considered as UNESCO World Heritage Site and is visited by many Buddhist all around the world
I enjoyed my visit and also because I love to explore about new things and places. So, i got to learn alot from this short visit. Also there were many shops having handmade souvenirs, things made of Plaster of Paris and other interesting artefacts. If you are thinking of visiting north Pakistan do visit this archeological site which us full of learning and adventures
