I couldn’t wait for the time to reach, yes! I sat watching the time. The tickling of the clock sounded like the rhythm of my heart beat, it would be a moment of joy as mum said “it was the most memorable day of her life”
At tender age, mum always told us stories about herself and my dad, it was all fun and amazing…..I taught today was going to be the best of it, but the story remains a memory in my heart.
17:59 calling! I ran with joy to mums room to seat in my best position and enjoy the story of the night, mum usually tells amazing stories and I can’t afford to miss it a day. Throughout the evening, I hurriedly did my house chores as that impressed my mom to tell us the best of stories, today was going to be exceptional as I made her happier with my performance in school.
She began by saying; “you are too young to learn about this but I think it’s going to guide you as you grow”, touched by her words I wonder what they could be, this made me more curious than I was and I couldn’t wait to her what she has to tell.
She slowly began the story, I could see the fear that transcended her face, not too long and the setting of happiness was turned to that of gloominess.
She told me the story of my dead sister.
It all began when my dad became ill; all forms of medication prove futile. They had to consult some spiritual authority which was disguised to be a faithful of God. Being persuaded of some stories which they learnt about him, they gave him their full trust. they followed his advice and wise counsel and they at sometimes were helpful. Identity quickly began to unveil itself as the spiritual man brought a request which in a local dialect is call “ikpochi onunu” this means to appeal for ones life.
He took a night journey with my Dad to the grave yard where the ill experience really began. In the name of prayers, some circles were drawn on the floor and they both stood almost naked in that place. It was exactly 12:00am when they began to see one splashed from the sky, each one descended like a shooting star to the arena where they were gathered…they all came till the final one which looks more fierce than others. Soon, judgment was set
One would think was has this to do with the dead
They were actually consulting the dead spirits on behalf of my dad and sister, the long process of argument continued till the judgment was brought to a halt with a question which was a proverb. My dad was asked; “is it better to cut off a tree or to cut of its branch?”
The tree was my dad while the branch was his offspring which is my sister.
In the innocence of his heart you could guess what his answer was. Not long after that my sister kicked the bucket that was really when the meaning of the proverb sufficed.
Not long enough, the spiritual man was charged with murder of which he was prosecuted, it was then that the truth about him sufficed that he was not a true man of God but an addition to evil.
That was costly mistake meeting and trusting him at the first time my mother said. You couldn’t imagine the feelings on her face as she told the story.
