Text: “And the Lord said unto Joshua, see I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the King thereof...And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.” Joshua 6:2-3
The conversation between God and Joshua began with divine declaration of what has been provided for Joshua and his people. Jericho has been given to them; it was a concluded issue. But for this to happen there were a set of instructions Joshua and his men had to follow. This has nothing to do with the law as some people may suggest. The law was a set of rules and regulations of worship to please God and atone for sins committed by the people. Divine instruction as in the case of Joshua has nothing to do with that.
Divine instructions are divine ways of engaging us to take responsibility of our lives to see the reality of God’s counsels for our lives. We’ll find the same pattern repeated over and over again all over scriptures. God gave Abraham specific instructions to leave his father’s house. There was no way Abraham would have become all that God wanted him to become if he had not received that instruction. Moses was given an instruction on what to do with the rod as he went in to face Pharaoh. Every victory that was obtained in Egypt was a result of divine instructions followed.
As we walk closely with God such divine instructions will also come our way. As we open up to them and follow them closely we’ll see the reality of God’s counsels for our lives. Proverbs 4:13 says “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” The word of God itself is a book of divine instructions. There are instructions in scriptures that are general to every one of us and there are instructions that will come to us personally and tailor made for our unique journey in life. Instruction ignored is a destiny aborted. The instruction could be as simple as “Let not this book depart out of thy mouth.
In the name of Jesus I yield myself completely to the instructions of God’s word. I submit myself to them.
