Text: “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved...but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Sam 30:6
Dealing with discouragement is principally a personal responsibility. The plain truth is that we spend more time with ourselves more than any other person does. Even in very intimate relationship we still have times that we are away from each other. No matter how close a couple will be they will still have times that they are away. If all the encouragement we need depends on what comes from others then we may not have enough of the encouragement we need in life to face the issues that confronts us. Most of the time it’s not really the challenges of life that defeats us but rather how we respond to them.
If all the encouragement that we can ever get will come from someone else we’ll forever run short of it. The wife of job did not even have any to give him. His friends were only trying to find out who was faulty about what happened. David too would have been stranded if he had depended on his colleagues to encourage him; they actually wanted to stone him. He had to encourage himself. The best way to deal with discouragement is to receive inner encouragement that comes from the Holy Spirit. If you don’t deal with discouragement from within the things that happen without will defeat you.
The journey of life is principally personal, so don’t wait for someone to encourage you. They might do it late or not even if they will do it at all. We need so much dose to encouragement oneself to deal with life issue You will have to stay very close in intimate relationship with the Spirit of God in other to deal with discouragement. The Spirit of God is the river of God within a believer, bringing comfort and courage in the face of adverse circumstances. Always remember that the name of God is a strong tower and the righteous run to it and they are save. No matter what you are passing through Lord is surely with all what you need is to have faith in he, for he is our maker.
CONFESSION:
The Spirit of God is at work in me. Bringing me comfort and courage.
