How many people around you are anime or comic fans? I believe there are quite a few, whether in schools, workplaces, or on social media. I’ve noticed many people around me are passionate about discussing, watching, and sharing anime-related content. For instance, the box office numbers from popular anime movies, like the Detective Conan series, clearly show how many people enjoy this kind of film. After visiting an comic expo, I realized just how deeply anime or comic culture has permeated society. While most attendees were young students, there were also plenty of young adults.
On social media, anime or comic fans are everywhere. Platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram are flooded with anime or comic discussions, fan art, and the latest news. Whether it's the classic Dragon Ball series or the trending Demon Slayer, these shows spark lively conversations and countless likes and shares. I first learned about an anime-themed mural alley from someone’s Instagram post. In some cities, you might stumble upon graffiti art, but in this alley, you can see dozens of iconic anime scenes in just one short walk. It’s pretty special.
The entrance to the mural alley is marked by a motorcycle shop, and it’s said that the anime murals were painted by the shop’s owner. It’s amazing to think that the same hands that repair motorcycles could create such beautiful artwork. The owner, an anime or comic fan himself, initially just wanted to fill the empty walls. His painting skills turned out to be quite impressive, and soon after, the neighbors began asking him to paint on their walls too. What started as a simple project turned into a local attraction, with characters like One Piece, Naruto, Gundam, Pikachu, and Mario coming to life before our eyes.
When I was younger, people who liked anime or video games were often labeled as “otaku”, a term that carried negative connotations over time. But nowadays, with society’s growing respect for individual freedom, I care less about what others think. As long as it doesn’t affect my life, I prefer to keep things simple. People’s interests are often not that complicated; they’re just pure and straightforward. Seeing an anime I loved as a child brings me simple joy. I think that’s the same feeling that inspired the artist to start painting in that mural alley.
