I guess when most tourists visit Kaohsiung, there are just a few places they really want to check out. As someone who stayed briefly in Kaohsiung a few years ago, besides wanting to revisit some old spots, I was most curious about the Pier-2 Art Center — the place everyone’s been buzzing about lately. Honestly, it's no exaggeration to say it’s become a major highlight of Kaohsiung tourism.

I was pretty lucky this time, because the light rail was already up and running, so I could easily hop on and cruise around Kaohsiung. The light rail actually passes right by the Pier-2 Art Center. There are two stations nearby: Pier-2 Penglai Station and Pier-2 Dayi Station. As soon as I saw those colorful, creative murals from the train window, I knew I'd arrived at my destination.

I heard that some of the older buildings around here were specially painted by famous graffiti artists to match the vibe of the art center. From what I could see, the project seems like a huge success — at least, it definitely caught my attention. Among all the bold and imaginative murals, the one that stood out the most to me was the massive 3D wall art near the station. Using perspective techniques and blending with the surroundings, the artist managed to turn a plain, boring wall into a stunning, lifelike 3D scene. Honestly, I think every tourist who comes to Pier-2 would want to snap a photo here. I even heard that this mural has become a landmark of the area.

I spent the afternoon slowly strolling through the park, taking my time. Along the way, I found even more hidden murals tucked away in alleys or peeking out from old windows — like little surprises waiting for people to discover. It felt like a treasure hunt, and I couldn’t stop pulling out my phone to take pictures, afraid I might miss some tiny detail.

Even though the murals aren’t really the main attraction at the Pier-2 Art Center, they definitely add so much character to the place. It’s this creative spirit that makes Pier-2 so lively, drawing in tons of visitors — or oddballs like me — to stop, wander, and just take it all in.
