There are some really interesting things about Taiwan. Even as a local, I didn't notice some of them until someone pointed them out to me. The weirdest one, in my opinion, is the herd mentality. By herd mentality, I mean people jumping on the bandwagon. If there's a line, more people line up. If everyone is eating at one place, others follow without even knowing if the food is actually good or what the place is famous for. Take the FIFA World Cup, for example. Most people don't watch soccer in their daily lives, but once the World Cup comes around every four years, suddenly everyone's a soccer fan. That's why trends in Taiwan often explode overnight, then disappear just as quickly. A few months later, nobody even remembers them. Isn't that kind of fascinating?

Do you remember the article I wrote before about that packed pop-up store? Well, right before the event ended, it suddenly became much quieter. Maybe that's another perfect example of the herd mentality. I happened to walk by, so I decided to stop in again. This time, most of the hardcore shoppers were gone, and it was way more relaxing to look around. Of course, the hottest items, like the Sakura Doraemon plush, were already sold out. Still, there were plenty of cool things left. One limited-edition T-shirt cost NT$1,200, which is freaking expensive! Then again, I remembered seeing a BIGBANG city-exclusive T-shirt before that cost NT$1,380, so maybe that's just the normal price for these kinds of limited-edition shirts. The best part was finally getting to take my time checking out all the merchandise that I didn't get to properly look at last time.

The last time I came here, the pink Sakura House was surrounded by people taking photos. Everyone was trying to grab the perfect angle before someone else did. No matter how I positioned my camera, someone else's head always ended up in my shot. This time, coming back to the exact same spot felt completely different. The crowd was gone, and I could finally enjoy the beauty of the pink Sakura House without worrying about people getting in the way. I could take photos from whatever angle I wanted and really appreciate the details. For someone like me, who loves wandering around the city and casually capturing moments, this is what life is all about.
