I believe that for many people from my generation, when you ask them which cartoon character they are most familiar with, Doraemon would be pretty hard to leave out. This blue robotic cat comes from the 22nd century, right? And he has that famous Anywhere Door, and all those amazing gadgets in his four-dimensional pocket. Wait, did I mention that he comes from the 22nd century? That means we still have 86 years to go before he is officially born! So, people online jokingly call him “minus 86 years old”. Pretty funny, right?
I found out about this pop-up store from a friend. He wanted to get the “Sakura Edition Doraemon,” which had reportedly sold out in Tokyo, so when he told me about the event, I happened to have some free time and decided to go check it out with him. But as soon as I arrived at the entrance, I regretted coming. Why? Because there was a long line just to get inside. And if there’s one thing I really hate, it’s waiting in line. But since I was already there, I figured it would be an even bigger waste of time to leave without seeing anything, so I bit the bullet and joined the line. Unfortunately, the pop-up store didn’t seem to have very good crowd control. A huge number of fans were packed into the merchandise area, while the entrance line could only move forward very slowly. There was also another long line at the checkout area, with people waiting to pay and leave. The whole place was absolutely packed. I gave up pretty quickly and decided to get out.
As for my friend, he stayed inside and battled the crowds for more than an hour. Unfortunately, the popular Sakura Edition Doraemon was already sold out. However, there were still quite a few limited-edition items available, so he still managed to come out with a pretty good haul. As for me, I only took a few quick photos in front of the pink cherry-blossom-themed Doraemon house as a souvenir. Compared with the Doraemon pop-up event I visited last year, this time was a completely different experience. Maybe it was because I went near the end of the event last year, so there weren’t nearly as many people, and I could walk around much more comfortably. This time, though, I basically walked straight into the busiest period. But then again, if you don’t go near the beginning of the event, you probably won’t have a chance to get the limited-edition items. So what can I say? It’s a real dilemma!
