One weekend afternoon, it was another hot and sticky day, and I found myself wandering aimlessly around the creative park. I didn’t have any particular plan. I just wanted to soak in the space, which is full of creativity and artistic vibes. As I strolled through the park, the old warehouses blended with modern designs, creating a unique atmosphere. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground, and I couldn’t help but slow down my pace.

Every corner of the park seems to hold a little surprise, which is why I love coming here. I casually walked into an exhibition hall and stopped at a small handmade jewelry stall. There weren’t many items on display, but the shop owner enthusiastically explained the creative ideas behind each piece. From simple wooden trinkets to finely crafted ceramic ornaments, every item seemed infused with the artist’s soul and attention to detail. The wooden pieces retained their natural grain, feeling smooth and warm to the touch, while the ceramic pieces were hand-painted and intricately carved, their glossy surfaces glimmering softly in the sunlight—so beautiful that it was hard to resist them.

I noticed that all the items had strong indigenous influences. Although the store mentioned sixteen indigenous tribes, I remembered learning as a child, because of the famous tourist attraction “Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village,” that there were only nine tribes. Later, reading a book, I discovered that there are actually over forty tribes, though the exact number is hard to confirm, as many tribes have disappeared over time for various reasons.

The shop owner told me that I came at the wrong time. If I had come earlier, I could have watched an indigenous music performance. Indigenous people are known for their great singing voices. For example, singer A-Mei comes from the Puyuma tribe, and the duo “Power Station,” famous for their high-pitched and powerful live performances, comes from the Paiwan tribe.

In my experience, not every indigenous person is extremely outgoing, but this shop owner was very talkative and approachable. He didn’t seem too concerned about making a sale; what mattered more to him was interacting with visitors. Even in our brief conversation, I could feel his respect and gratitude for the land and nature, and he shared stories and wisdom from his tribe’s culture and way of life.
