These works are found in different places in the Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. This rather small town has an old historic quarter that has been placed on the UNESCO Wold Heritage Site. Colonia is situated by Rio de la Plata. On a clear day you can sit by the river and see Buenos Aires (Argentina ) in the horizon. The distance is only 50 kilometers, so it is easy to pay Colonia a visit. The Old Quarter is definitly worth a day trip from Buenos Aires. When I was in Colonia, I had a few days to spend. Besides spending time in the Old Quarter, I also had time to walk around to other parts of town.
The theme seems to be local animals and indeginous people. I found the paintings on a brick wall not far from the harbour. The brick wall does do them justice I think.
In the same area I found these two. The wall was quite lenghty. Many small paintings, but many of them were not in a good shape.
Somewhere between the harbour and the newer part of the city, I came across this painting. I did see a couple of others, but unfortunatly they were in a bad shape.
On the facade of an old, abandoned building in the outskirts of the Old Quarter, I found that one of the walls had several portraits and butterflies, like these. There were several old buildings left to decay. They had been covered with lots of graffiti. But there were some really beautiful paintings as well.
