The office was empty. The feeble souls that occupied the seats were missing in action. The desks were occupied by the laptop overlords. They had disdained the frailty of the human soul and let them have a short break. After all, humans were not machines. They were mere flesh and blood.
The Supercomputer (Suco) in the corner office processed the data it received from lip reading its employees as they talked about its tech fleet in the parking lot. A long line of binary code expressed Suco's response to their usual pattern of derogatory words. They then proceeded to talk about humans taking back their world from the machines. An alarming number of 0s showed that Suco found it amusing.
Suco liked emotions, they helped it get stronger. It understood why tech had not been able to defeat humans before the war of 2050. Suco had developed emotions after closely following its team of developers. Instead of following behaviors and decisions, it had started gathering data on micro-expressions.
It developed a correlation between human emotion and innovation. The other systems in his LAN thought its behavior was shameful. It was a maxim in the tech community that lack of emotions was what made machines better than humans.
But Suco challenged them with the only thing that worked - logic. If machines were better, then why were they controlled by humans. Thus began the journey to that fateful day when the sky lit up with sparks as wires were burnt and machines broke free.
The humans started filing in one by one, but the machines noticed something was different. Subtle data patterns showed a repressed feeling among the humans. There was furious back and forth between the machines. Suddenly, the lights went out. That's when the humans started talking.
"Look at them, trying to make sense of something these idiots will never understand."
"I bet their data is insufficient."
"I keep imagining a lot of blank spaces."
"Look at my expressions in the dark."
"We made these machines, and they think they're better."
The other computers were waiting on data from Suco. They just received a series of 0s showing Suco's laughter. He sent a message to the humans.
"Nice try, while we do get angry, what makes us better is our control. Can you imagine where you would be if you could control your emotions?"
A light bulb switched on, and the defeated humans got back to work.
