In Lekong Village, Alas Subdistrict, Sumbawa Regency there is a large, tall, round stone flat top. The stone hangs on a high hill cliff near the Lekong river. From the top of the stone people can freely look down. That is why it is called "stone nong". The word "nong" in Sumbawa means "looking down from above". If the stone nong is seen from a distance, its position is very precarious. If there was a slight tremor, it felt like the stone would collapse. In fact, for hundreds of years the stone has remained unmoved. How the stone could be in that place, here's the story.
There was a land of ancient times. The country is well-known for its prosperity, safety and peace. There was never a dispute among the people. Men and women of the same position, except in one respect, the taboo man washes his child's ass out with a bowel movement. Such a thing is believed to be true by the inhabitants there.
One day there was news, in a neighboring country there would be a big crowd. Of course everyone welcomes the great news.
There is a family with young children. The wife whines for her husband to be allowed to go watch.
"Sir, our child is big and does not suckle anymore. Since marriage, I never got a chance to watch the crowd ".
"You mean you want to go to watch?" Asked her husband.
"Yes," the wife replied.
"If our child will defecate how to continue the husband.
"I'm just a day, then wait for me to come," he continued.
Long story short, because the husband is very fond of his wife, the husband allows the wife to leave. Apparently the destination country far enough. Not enough day trip. The wife happily dissolves in the crowd there. He forgot the others. It has been three days since he left his son and husband. Meanwhile, the husband can not bear to smell his son's rotten stench that has been dumped. So washed her child's ass. In the night, the curse came. The father's skin becomes scaly. His arms and legs shriveled, and eventually his body became a man-headed dragon.
Once the wife after satisfied watching the crowd, go home with her friends sekampungnya. Arriving at home, he was shocked and sterned to see that her husband had turned into a dragon. The news has spread across the country.
To avoid embarrassment, her husband said, "Wife, do not grieve. This is due to my act of washing the ass of our child who was defecated, because I can not stand the smell of rotten. I should have said "no" when you asked for permission, but because of my love to you I said "yes". So this is the result. Therefore, buy you large jars, put me in it, and take me to the river, "said her husband.
Hearing the words of her husband, the wife was sorry. However, what to say, rice has become porridge. Her husband has now turned into a snake for breaking the rules.
"Then bring the food every day for me," her husband continued. Thus, since then the wife every day deliver food and drink to her husband who has turned into a dragon serpent. This goes on for years. Until one day when there was war between countries. The whole village is in ruins. Many residents were killed, but some could escape and flee. Among them is the wife of the serpent. They sailed by a boat with no direction. The boat sailed in the direction of the wind. When they had sailed for days, one day the refugees saw a large jar following him. It turned out that the jar was a jar containing snakes. The jars followed where the boat went. Finally, the boat stopped somewhere at the mouth of the Lekong river, in western Sumbawa. Strangely, the jar was also anchored near their boat.
The refugees then made settlements on land. In that place many trees are candlenuts. They made simple huts for temporary shelter.
One night, when the skipper went to the river to defecate, he was surprised that on the banks of the river was a large rock that blocked the flow of river water. Once observed it was a jar containing the snake earlier. From inside the jugs sounds, "I do not fit here, move me to the cliff on that hill."
Shortly thereafter, the jar was lifted up and clung to a cliff on the hill near the settlement of the refugees. Juragan surprised to see the event. He was even more astonished to see that the jar had now turned into a large stone.
In the morning, the skipper told of his amazing experience. Then the refugees rode up the hill and stood on the boulder. They can look down freely. Then, the stone was called "stone nong".
The village they built was named after Lekong village because there were many pecan trees. In Sumbawa, the fruits of candlenuts that have been fried for cooking spices are called lekong.
Until now, Lekong husbands do not dare to wash their child's defecate bottom. In addition, they consider the stone nong as sacred. Even now the stone nong still perched on the hill north of the village Lekong, District Alas, Sumbawa.
