If there is any animal that gets my cute radar tingling (besides the dachshund…) it is the wombat.

In my humble opinion, the wombat is the cutest, and most underrated, of Australia’s marsupials. Wombats are the world’s largest burrowing animals. Unlike their marsupial cousins the koala and kangaroo, wombats have a rear facing pouch. This prevents their pouch from filling with dirt while burrowing.

There are three types of wombats, the common wombat, the southern hairy nosed wombat and the northern hairy nosed wombat. Each type can weigh between 50-80lbs full grown! Their range covers most of south eastern Australia.

Living in the United States, there are not many opportunities to run into a wombat.

This one troy ounce .9999 silver coin is a product of Australia’s famous Perth Mint. (You can see the little P representing this on the left side of the coin.) The coin is the first in A NEW WOMBAT COIN SERIES! The wombat featured here is a common wombat, proudly standing in his spacious burrow. 😍

The Perth Mint is known for celebrating Australia’s fauna. Past coin series have featured koalas, emus, wedge tailed eagles, swans, lyre birds, quokkas, and kangaroos. I am so excited the wombat is finally getting her time in the spotlight! I think I manifested it into existence. 😂😄🤣
