Come and Take Them
This newly released round from the Intaglio Mint celebrates the Ancient Greek phrase Molon Labe. Translating to come and take them, Molon Labe is famously connected to Leonidas, King of the Spartan kingdom.
History tells the tale of the brave King Leonidas, leader of the Spartan kingdom within Greece. Leonidas and his men were fearsome warriors raised from birth to fight and win for the cause of Sparta and greater Greece. When the Persian Empire with its army numbering in the thousands threatened to invade Greece, it was Leonidas and 300 of his bravest men who marched out to stall the Persians for days... Leonidas refused to step aside and allow the Persian armies to march through to Greece. Though he would lose the battle, his men fought valiantly and reportedly told the Persians when asked to relinquish their weapons and step aside Molon Labe. source
This Molon Labe round is 1oz of .999 fine silver. The round is also produced in a 2oz version. Each size comes in either a BU or antiqued finish.
The obverse of this round features a Spartan soldier with a battle scene unfolding in the background. A traditional Greek boarder frames the battle. The words Molon Labe, written in Greek are also shown on this side.
The round’s reverse includes the Ingalio Mint logo set on a radial burst background. The outter boarder is stipples and features the rounds weight and purity. There are also 8 small bullet points separating the weight and purity.
