People think life of programmers is super cool. And then reality hits you.
Note: Before you read any further, this is just my experience and the observations so far about the life of the programmers. I lived some part of my life as a programmer and so I wish to put some views on that life.

There are programmers who are recruited by the Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, Google. And their life kind of changed. The reason being those programmers who get employed by the top companies are living the life. Owning the home, cars, hot wife and the kids. You name it.
You settle in for less earlier and don't grow then the life would slowly go derailed. You would move from one small company to another. You won't be able to crack the bigger one. And then slowly you move towards the 40 where your chances of going big goes slim.
Every programmer after 10 years of experience gets an option to become leader. You can climb that ladder and slowly move towards the management and the controlling people in teams. This is something you should pick up and learn to manage people, stay with people and move on.
If you have selected to remain a coder, then you are going to be a newbie forever. Like at the age of 45 you would be staying into the code job with age 21 year old. And their mindset and your slow brain processing would clash. And that would eat you from inside.
This is not specific to the IT job. But this applies to all those nerdy jobs where you don't find a girlfriend then they are going to be marrying you for money. Like that is a norm these days. Most of the IT professionals have the marriage where they are just another ATM for some wives.
This is why finding your own can be one option. Who is to say that relationship would not reduced to being someone's ATM? You just can't get that part easily learned unless you reach the 40s and may be early 50s.
You crunch numbers, You find problems with things. You know solutions for many things. But you are just another programmer with average salary. Despite being nerd and talented person you can't climb like your extroverted friends. And as age goes ahead they look down on you.
People go ahead of you, that applies to all careers. But being intelligent yet you reduced to just another code driver who works in a desk and get orders from the non coders is a pain. And most of the people would be going through that.
I have a lot of views on the sad programmer life. But I don't want to bore you down with details. So I thought maybe some day I can write the book instead and that would help out. I guess this is one of the life realization most of the programmers have and it's sad. Because hopes end at this point and you just want to live life for a day.
Don't be a nerd. Don't be a Sheldon. Don't be a sarcastic one.
It ends badly. It ends like a misery.
