Buildbox offers variety of options that makes it easy to design and build the games. Like some of the options are already offered to you. But if you wish to extend the game and also make sure to add the items and then effects can enhance the existing made up templates too.
So if you happen to get a template for the games and in game effect within the Buildbox Classic, you should consider adding the same to the game. I have found that out to be very much effective. And in such case it would be reasonable to try it out and use them.
When you open your project and add actions like death, coin collection, jumps, hit etc. You may want to make use of the effects. Why? Because effects make it easier for you to work with the content in the game. And that in itself can be very effective long term for the in game retention of the users there. I have used it and it has turned out to be good for the game in general.
Next thing is where to place and finding the place for the effects to be more effective. So you always choose an action to decide that. Like say you have a car that collides with the wall and then you want the character disappear and that effect is going to make you change the way game is appearing. More clean yet fancy effects the more people like it.
Train and the light are the most common games. And you would love it when such effects make it easier for you to use in certain places. Which is what I have realized would be a good use for the same in the game. I can't tell you how the game has shown the effects in general in the game. But the original approach would be the game using it on the basis of the events and the actions there.
Should you use it too often? I think that question can only be answered if things turns out to be true for having too many elements. And there are times when those elements don't really matter but the cosmetic touch. So in that case it would be reasonable to say that we make use of the overall game dynamics with the way we are handling it that would benefit the player and not overdoing the effects.
I learned a lot of interesting things about the Classic version of the Buildbox. I wish I could subscribe to 3. But the thing is that considering I am paying for the software overall I would say that unless I make money it's not really worth the effort with the same.
