I always look forward to the Manila International Bookfair every September. Previously, for two years due to the pandemic, the event was only held online but this year was their big comeback. And I was very excited! Not only because of the whole range of books I am going to rummage through (and if budget allows, will be able to buy) but also because our new devotional book will be launched at the event.
Fortunately, our book launch was scheduled on a Saturday, so I don't have to take a leave at work. I was accompanied by my wife 
When we arrived at the SMX Convention Center, we went straight to the OMF Booth for the authors' briefing. One by one, my co-authors arrive at the venue. After a few catching up and "retouching," we proceeded to the author's interview.
It was a brief but meaningful program. We were asked about our inspirations for writing our entries in the book, our message to the readers, and how relevant the book is.
As a brief introduction to the book, G! is a 54-week devotional book written by six authors (myself included) for Gen Zs and the young at heart. It is intended to guide the readers to reflect and appreciate the Bible and help them discover God's message of love to them. It also has an interactive activity every week to facilitate reflection. It is written in Taglish. It costs around $5 (Php 250).
After the interview, we had pictorials and book signing proper. We were also given a copy of the book.
The best thing about the book launch is that my wife and my family were there to grace the event and celebrate with me. I was thrilled because it is a dream come true! All along I wanted to be a writer and this is the second time I joined a book signing event as an author (The last time was 2019, for our first book Kaya Ko Pa Bes! Devotional)
When the formalities and the program were finished, I joined my family for dinner before we separate ways. But my wife and I, along with Jessa, went back to SMX for another round of book sightings.
We looked around for some children's books, academic textbooks, YA books from Wattpad, PSICOM, and other names and publishers I haven't heard of before. We also looked for various school supplies and stationaries. But the part where I spent the most time during this MIBF visit was when I looked for Christian books for my class and personal readings.
It was already dark and the weather was very gloomy, ready to pour out heavy rains when we decided to go home. Fortunately, we made it to Marikina quickly and we were spared from the looming outpour.
Even up until now, I still couldn't believe that I can already read my name on a book cover, and attend events like this - something I always dreamt of since I was a child. But I still have a lot more to improve and a very spacious room to discover where my writing hobby will take me. I still aim for more. It is my desire to publish regularly and inspire people with my writing voice.
