This post is long overdue, but I wouldn't miss the chance to share what my wife and I experienced during our church's Family Camp. After all the restrictions of the pandemic, our church decided that it is high time to take our services outdoors.
I was assigned to handle the pre-registration, and we had around 200 delegates, not counting the kids. It was an overnight camp, but it was packed with meaningful activities!
When we reached the camp venue, Boso-Boso Highlands Resort in Antipolo, City, we roamed around the venue for a short rest. It was only 8 am and the program will commence at 11 am. The scenery is great and very relaxing. Several delegates took the chance to take selfies.
Our first session is just to break the ice. We had a few games, including the camp scavenger hunt. It was meant for us to make new friends and reconnect with the old.
In the afternoon, after we have checked into our rooms, we had our team-building games. I was in charge of one of the games where participants will form a line, and will step either on the left or the right depending on their choice. If neutral, they will have to stand still. It was a game of making decisions.
After the game, they are given a set of questions to reflect on. This is to reinforce their learning.
When the night came, we had a bonfire. It was a momentous event because that is when we sought reconciliation with each other and expressed our appreciation to one another. I bet the delegates shed buckets of tears that night.
The following morning, while it was still dark, we conducted our dawn worship. What an amazing experience! We were singing songs of worship while we were waiting for the sun to shine. We also had our Zumba session right after.
Later in the afternoon came the water baptism. Swimming time followed after.
This family camp was conducted with the goal of reigniting the flames of friendship that were extinguished because of the pandemic and politics. Somehow, I know the goal was met.
