WALK AROUND IRON BRIDGE / BLACK & WHITE / COLOUR IMAGES

This little set of images taken yesterday in Iron Bridge with myself and my partner visited it on the way back through from being out for the day and popped in to Iron Bridge for a walk around and a bite to eat.

Nestled in a spectacular wooded gorge stands a monument to British industry the world’s first iron bridge. Crossing the River Severn, it was completed in 1779 and opened to traffic in 1781. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 and remains an iconic feature of Britain’s industrial past.

The man responsible for the design of the Iron Bridge was a Shrewsbury architect called Thomas Farnolls Pritchard. But Pritchard was an architect and stonemason by training and it is thought that the structure that we see today was influenced by Abraham Darby III who was experienced in working with iron.

We visited a shop with 2 items we liked and will prob go back to purchase them soon if they are still there. one was a cabinet and a knight we had the idea of putting LED lights inside the knight so he lights up at night time I think this will look pretty cool ? and the unit I will use to put my modelFerrari cars in with some glass shelves and again some LED lights to light it up .

During the 1960s there was talk of dismantling the Iron Bridge and selling it for scrap. Thankfully in the 1970s, the site came under the guardianship of English Heritage and its predecessors, and was one of the first places in the UK to be inscribed onto the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
