Although I'm not much of a theme park person, last Christmas I headed to Lotte World with my girlfriend to spend the day. It was an amazing place and needless to say I was very impressed... Even if the queues were insane, and it was incredibly crowded (what happens when you go the day after Christmas...), it actually had a really pleasant and fun atmosphere, and I really enjoyed my time there.
Lotte World is at the base of Lotte World Tower (the tallest building in Seoul, and one of the tallest in the world), and is basically a massive indoor dome that is filled with rides and virtually a whole fantasy world. To top it off, there is a big ice skating rink in the centre of the dome that the theme park is built around. There is also a really big outdoors area, but since I went in winter it was a bit cold, and today I will just talk about the indoor area!
Like I said earlier, it was incredibly crowded and that made the experience a little less pleasant... The queue times were three hours for some rides. If you want rides, go to Seoulland, it is far better. However, the atmosphere in Lotte World was amazing, I loved it. Although I am not a child anymore, I thought the idea of what is basically a full fantasy world inside a shopping mall is incredible. The atmosphere was great, and there was so much to see and do, even after spending hours there.
Going around Christmas time meant that there were also lots of events going on, and they were even letting off fireworks... Inside... I was definitely impressed!
The whole area is built as a fairy tale sort of world. Everything from the architecture of the buildings in the theme park, to the rides follows this theme. This to me is what makes it so amazing, the atmosphere really is made so much better with the theme. I have been to other theme parks, but none felt quite like this!
There are also areas that are split up by age, meaning that rides for different age groups are easy to find. Although it is an indoor area, this does not by any means mean it is small! The first image shows the vastness of the park, but there is also far more hidden behind the scenes. There is a whole other floor below that is filled with more, along with an extensive outdoors area. Even the roof is used for a hot air balloon ride!
Lotte World is one of three major theme parks in Korea. Lotte World, Everland and Seoulland are all popular and famous (although Seoulland a bit less so). I have never been to Everland, but between Lotte World and Seoulland, I love both. Seoulland is great if it is summer and you want an outdoor park with much better rides. On the other hand, Lotte World is a great place to go if you just want to hang out for a day without any particular focus on rides. The atmosphere and activities are definitely better at Lotte World!
If you don't mind the entrance fee (which I believe is around 40,000 won, or $35 USD, although there are all sorts of deals on around the year), it is definitely a place I would recommend visiting for at least half a day. Even if you aren't a theme park person!
Thanks for checking out my post everyone! I hope you're having a great day, and please don't hesitate to ask any questions or provide feedback! Feel free to follow for more in the future :)
