While browsing Facebook, I've come across a viral post asking people to explain a scar that they had from childhood. So, I decided to share mine.
I'm gonna show you a gist of the process it took to make this art but this is not the actual process rather a recreation of it - you can see the noticeable difference in the gifs. had to do this since I wasn't able to document the original process so I basically redid the artwork to get screenshots of the steps to illustrate it properly.
It all starts out by me taking a photo of my left hand where the scar is. It's a bit faint but you can see the scar and the stitches I got from this. .
First, we need to use Adobe Illustrator so we can easily vectorize the image above using image trace, the process can be seen on the GIF image below:
We just have to import a photo and use image trace on it and adjust the parameters until we reach the decide look and color segregation. Once done, we can save this as a PNG to be used later. This is what the output looks like:
It's a bit imperfect but we will just use this as a guide. You can also use Adobe Illustrator allthroughout the whole process but I'm just winging it, so I had to use Adobe Photoshop to continue my work. Watch this GIF:
We had to re-open the original photo to start. Then we use the Pen tool to outline the shape of the whole hand/fist.
After that, we have to shade the darkest to the lightest parts using the Pen tool. I had to skip the whole process in the GIF because it would take time.
Once we have a vectorized image to our liking we can just draw the outline and add details. For this one, I added some lighting and shadows, as well as made the scar a bit more prominent.
The backdrop was very simple. We just had to color the left side with red and the right side with blue. We did that because of the backstory, which I'll tell later. Then we added a gradient of black onto it.
We also added the words "Pop cola" on it and added a Radial blur with a Zoom effect. To have an output like this:
Various other adjustments were made, to make it look like this. So, why the background. This smiley-faced childhood scar of mine was the result of me running up the stairs while holding a soda bottle. That soda's brand was called "Pop cola". I tripped and the bottle broke piercing my wrist on that part. I had to get a few stitches for it as a result.
