Hello, community, I want to tell you about what I have been watching in the last week, a miniseries on the streaming channel HBO, entitled Time, I must confess that at first, I was reluctant to watch it, because I do not like movies about prisons or prisoners, but my brother selected it, with whom I had no time to share, so I decided to make the sacrifice of watching a little violence in exchange for spending some time between brothers. The pleasing thing about this miniseries was that it was far from being the typical prison film to which the Hollywood film industry has accustomed us.
Two stories are told in Time, different, but common at the same time, since both take place inside a Great Britain prison; the first is about Mark Cobden, a school teacher addicted to alcohol, who is taken to prison for having driven drunk and running over a cyclist who died as a result of the accident, the second is about a jailer Eric McNelly, an honest and Just that he has a spotless career, but is forced to commit illicit acts to save his son's life.
Of course, I found scenes of violence, because it is about people serving sentences for being antisocial and aggressive, however, the central theme does not revolve exclusively around that theme, it exposes various topics, one of them being how prisoners must deal with guilt, with the mistakes and the crime that led them to be locked up there, because the greatest judge, the most implacable is always carried inside, and this never tires of remembering the faults committed, this being the ultimate punishment that human beings do to themselves.
On the other hand, there is the dilemma of the jailer, who is pushed to throw away his professional ethics in exchange for the welfare of his son, this made me reflect on how much one can be willing to sacrifice for the mistakes of one's children, should one harm others in exchange for saving one's own, is it worth it to become complicit in the behavior of one's son? Well, one would first have to be in the shoes of this official before answering such questions.
The miniseries leaves several lessons, on which one can reflect, on the one hand, there is that of the prisoner Mark Cobden, the professor who has come down because of his alcoholism and whose life he decides to give a great turn, and another that of the jailer Eric McNelly who He ends up in an unfavorable position because of the pressures to which he was subjected. This made me think about how thin the line is between good and evil; and how we can be at a similar crossroads without knowing which one to choose.
