Right at the railway station and packed with energy to meet all the friends.
Not many people around at this afternoon
Some of you might know this nice old thing. It was several years in use for my travel and as well it went to school with the Kids.
Today it is filled with a nice Kölsch for my ride.
A light beer 🍻 to travel. This goes well with my bread 🥖 and the bretzel
Where does the name "chamber of horrors" come from ?
The original brewery "Schreckenskammer" was located at Johannisstraße 42 in Cologne. According to oral tradition, the brewery got its name from the following story:
"Opposite the house at Johannisstraße 42 there used to be the railway training institute of the Fränkisch-Märkische-Eisenbahn. Since this institution was very small, the brewery had to be used for examinations. When another examination was held in the brewery and a state examiner came along, he asked, as he was not familiar with the premises, "Well, where is the chamber of horrors now?"
So much for the literal tradition.
But there is another explanation of how the brewery got its name. According to this explanation, prisoners who were sentenced in the courthouse of the time, near the town hall, were led to the brewery on their way to their place of execution (Weckschnapp) for a last meal.
Today, the Schreckenskammer-Kölsch is still brewed according to its own recipe and bottled without the addition of carbon dioxide.
Just got a greeting from two other Hivians at a train
