I set out a hummingbird feeder at the beginning of the summer and I wasn't really sure that any hummingbirds were using it. I would see them every now and then flying around in the yard, but I never saw them coming up to the feeder to get a drink. Until yesterday.
There were three of them flying around yesterday, but only one of them would approach the feeder at a time. The others would fly in whenever one would get close and chase it away. So I had a split second to get some photos of it before they all swooped in and chased it away.
I wish that I was able to get a bit closer so I could get some better detailed shots, but when I got really close to the feeder and would wait, they would only fly by super fast and none of them would stop to get a drink.
I must have been outside taking pictures of these little birds for about an hour. It was cool to see them a bit closer and try and get some photos, but they are super fast. Hummingbirds are such cool little birds and it is really hard to get decent photos of them.
At one point, this one forgot what the flowers looked like and tried to get a drink from the hook that the feeder was hanging on.
This one must not have been the smart one in the group.
It would be cool to have the birds get used to me and the feeder so that I could get a lot closer and try and stage some of the shots. My wife says that we should plant some Trumpet Vines and have them grow up the pillars. It would be awesome to have a ton of flowers that attract lots of hummingbirds.
For some reason I never really thought about hummingbirds having feet. You never really see pictures of them sitting on anything and they are usually just floating, so it is cool to see how tiny their cute feet are.
I wish I could get one to land on my finger. That would be pretty awesome.
I am going to be going out each day while they are feeding so they can get used to me. I have always wanted hummingbird friends.
