A few days ago, my daughter and I set out on a walk with our cameras to get some pictures. I got my daughter a camera last year and have been trying to teach her some photography techniques here and there. As she is getting ready for high school, she is going to be able to take some photography courses, which should help her to harness her skills as well.
@derangedvisionsAs we set out on our walk, I wanted to go out with some goals to try and take some pictures that I wouldn't normally take. I do take some flower shots and macro type shots, but I wanted to get some of the pictures in a different way than I normally would. One way to challenge yourself in photography is to put a fixed lens on your camera and force yourself to shoot with that lens the whole time. So I set out with my 100 mm f/2.8 on my camera to get some pictures.
@derangedvisionsThe Canon 100 mm f/2.8 lens is an amazing lens. I use it for portrait photography because it is super sharp and can create really awesome bokeh. It is also a super awesome macro lens. The versatility of this lens is unbeatable and the price isn't too bad considering what it can do. It is about $800, which seems expensive, but it is one of Canon's L series lenses, super fast and has amazing glass.
@derangedvisionsOur walk was mostly along a creek that runs along a walking trail behind our house. The creek is home to a family of ducks, which we were hoping to see, but the ducks weren't around that night. There was a lot of plants and bugs along the creek that we did take pictures of and the lighting was pretty awesome.
@derangedvisionsA few weeks ago, my daughter and I were on a walk and we found some snails on the ground and she dared me to lick the bottom of one and I told her that I would do it if she did. So we both ended up licking snails. Surprisingly the snails didn't really taste like anything. On this night we decided we were going to put grasshoppers in our mouths.
@derangedvisionsShe was scared that it was going to jump down her throat so I had to hold onto its back legs to make sure.
@derangedvisionsAfter playing around with the grasshoppers, we found some little red bug that was being camera shy. After a little coaxing, it decided that it wanted to poke its little head out from the leaf and say hi to the camera and show of those massive antennas.
@derangedvisionsWe headed to a park that was surrounded by sunflowers and got some pictures of them.
@derangedvisionsWe started to head back home and passed some pine trees with there little pine cones in it. I would normally just skip these types of situations to get a few shots, but I figured I would take a couple pine cone shots and see what comes out.
@derangedvisionsI can't wait to see how my daughter's skills as a photographer progress over the years. She has already gotten so much better since she got her camera. We have a lot of fun on our walks and I hope you had some fun checking out the pictures I got of this one.
