Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to my projection channel. 😂
Wow. What a day it was today. Happy New Month by the way.
Today, I will be talking on the emotion Pride based on a self assessment/reflection I did today. I want to take advantage of what Hive is and use it to lay down my flaws, not just growth.
Self-awareness, pride's a coat, and yes, I like to wear it
Buttoned up, don't like to let no air in
With a pair of gloves that I hope doesn't perish
I discovered, though, when I get holes in them
And I let joy in, I'm in higher spirits
My mistakes are like a screamin' parrot
If there's anything I have learned from being Alive, it's that each day we learn something new. Today, I truly understood the meaning behind the saying, Rome wasn't built in a day.
Today, I achieved something when I learned that while change is acquirable, it could take a long, long time.
Since 2021, I had taken on the assignment to build my mind, add value to myself and join the top 20%. I have made my five year plan, written and re-written goals, adjusted plans and constantly evaluated my growth.
While I have made progress in certain aspects of my life, some haven't even seen the light. A guru once said,
"To let light in, you have to draw the curtains. To let the water flow, you have to take out that block".
This has taught me that inevitably, the only enemy we face as individuals are ourselves. Unless we tackle the issue within, we will always remain the same without.
To be strong and reliable, we have to conquer our fears. To be wise and knowledgeable, we have to feed on information. To be a great leader, we must first follow. So what do you do when you're consumed by pride?
As we have all noticed, all these strengths came with the duty to create room for some more. Which means it all starts from breaking within.
Pride, while it has controversial definitions, is considered one of the seven deadly sins.
Pride is good but too much of it becomes bad. While many might not know it, there's a very thin line between confidence and pride. As well, there's a very thin line between Pride and Haughtiness.
We humans pride in our achievements and self worth. We pride in the knowledge of who we are and what we have. Most have let their possessions dictate their joy(pride) level and while others take pride(joy) in just...being.
Now, what happens when we cross that line?
Self reflection today opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn't know about myself. Or maybe I did and just chose to ignore.
This act of reflection was triggered by the class I've been taking for weeks now. Discipleship & Leadership Training where you're not just groomed to maximize your potentials and bear more responsibility, you're also taught to follow because you'd be assigned to various workshops.
I've been in a little bit of shock at how accurate these courses are and yet so freeing.
I finally unlocked one bad trait again today after many months: my pride.
My pride is not only rock solid but also poses a danger because it is my coping mechanism. I learned to get things done myself because that's the best way to get them done right. Or is it?
I learned to project the I don't care attitude because it saves me a lot of embarrassment. I learned to say it first before they get the opportunity to hurt me. I learned to be faster at closing up before they saw my vulnerability. I learned to shrug and never give away my discomfort. I learned to run before I let them see beneath the surface. Why?
To protect myself. My Pride. Ego.
All I laid bare right here, is something that's been my coping mechanism for over five years now. Watching and hearing that guy call me out on my bullshit today, dissecting my behaviors and presenting me on a huge platter of transparent relective glass, I was so speechless.
And to show how right he was, my mind at that moment was run. And looking me right in the eye he said, you can run but you can't hide because this would come back to haunt you in the future.
I cried.
Because it was the first time anyone ever saw me. The first time they looked beyond those thick walls to find the timid little girl.
And today, I was challenged. Another assignment to work out letting it go (my pride) and letting people in because it was a major trait critical to the survival of a leader.
He pointed out that pride would blind you, mislead you and ultimately destroy you. He explained it was okay to know your self worth and never let anyone talk you down but what becomes a problem is when all you hear is I'm right and I don't need anyone else.
It was very hard to take up that challenge. I remember shaking my head (reflexively) as though saying no. My subconscious was already taking the wheels and closing up at the thought of having people see me weak and vulnerable.
Coincidentally, I had a nasty fight with my mom this morning. I wasn't in the wrong but I had to say sorry with all sincerity as my first Challenge.
What?!
I dreaded coming back home but when I did, I went ahead to swallow the lump in my throat, beat the anxiety and go on my knees. I felt so awful in that position but when I stood, I felt a tiny wee better.
I feel this is a major achievement for me. Being able to let go like that? And I just hope to tackle most of my hindering characters as time goes by.
He elaborado mi plan quinquenal, he escrito y reescrito objetivos, he ajustado planes y he evaluado constantemente mi crecimiento.
¿O no?
