It's very difficult to settle another planet. The things on a new world seem un-natural. They don't follow what happens on a civilized world. We rule on our world and have ruled on many others, but this world is different.
Large portions of this world are absolutely uninhabitable - too searingly hot and we have yet to figure out how any organism can live in those places. Plus, most of the world is absolutely too wet, too full of other minerals - deadly to what lives.
I'm going to another meeting with the founders of our expedition, but I have to cross one of their black, coarse roads first. I must hurry.
"Hey," said Bobby, "There's another one of those slimy, gross Banana Slugs."
"Yeah," said Hank, "I hate those things," and he squished it with his boot.
"I don't even know why those things exist."
"I know, what purpose do they serve anyway?"
