I have to admit that you're probably right. Seems like people can less and less afford to live anywhere.
One of the problems we face here in this town is the gradual "Californication" which means every time an apartment building or rental property with reasonable rents is sold, it's renovated and turned into "luxury condos." The "fallout" is that none of the people who work in basic services here (foodservice, hospitality, retail, bank tellers) can actually afford to live here anymore... meaning they have to look at a 45-minute commute from the nearest more "reasonable" town.
So now we have all these swank dwellings and diminishing services.
