Sad, but true... it is simply the world we live in.
Yeah, I remember the early days of Adsense, and the massive crackdown on "spam sites;" as an admin of a content site I had occasional interactions with Matt Cutts and staff. It's better now, to be sure, but there still seems to be an undercurrent of entitlement running through segments of the web.
I remember when we had our art gallery, I'd occasionally have conversations with visitors who (strongly) felt that the moment an artist created something, it became "public property" and nobody should have to pay for it. There was some "faulty logic" in there, surrounding how artists should be willing to "create for creating's sake" while also having enough time and energy to create after holding down a full-time job so they could actually pay for their lives.
I've stopped worrying about takedown requests except for very recently posted content.
