In some ways this whole thing touches on the greater question of what "ownership" is, and what sorts of things you can "own." In many ways, ownership causes a lot problems in the world... if nobody actually owned anything, it would be hard to justify a fight/war over property.

Part of me has always enjoyed the futuristic sci-fi portrayals of a "post-monetary" future where you have no need to "own" anything because everyting is infinitely reproducible at minimal/lost cost. Invariably, the skeptic within me speaks up and points to the issue of how we would get from "here" to "there."

I don't really care that much when something of mine is copied; what mostly bothers me is precisely that manifestation of "a deeply dishonest character."
