Welcome back!
Currently, the closest thing we have to a "user friendly" front end is the LeoFinance community, which built its own browser/condenser from the ground up... which is great for crypto and investing content, but not so much for music and art.
Hive is currently the most censorship resistant option; even Dan (BitShares/Steemit/EOS) is back here and saying that. As far as monetizing content in a meaningful way... things are still a bit thin. I like blogging, and I like the community... so I mostly view this as a potential savings account, rather than a source of current income.
PeakD is actually decent, but seems a bit patchy unless you have the Hive Keychain extension.
