July 9, 22: Routine, LP State Convention, Upstairs Work, TV, and Games
[Got to head in and get the groceries done this morning and then finish up the work upstairs today. It’s more or less the last chance. They’re coming to get the dumpster on Tuesday, but who knows when (so can’t bank on that time) and we both have work all day tomorrow. There may be a little time, but not really, so I’m probably going to have to cut this post shorter than I’d like again…have quite a bit to say about the Convention, but not a whole lot of time to say it.]
Woke up about the usual time, around four, but I fell asleep relatively late last night and ended an hour short again. No rest for the wicked, though, and the plan for today was the Libertarian State Convention. There’s been some major shakeups in the party and the Mises Caucus has taken over the National Party. We were temporarily in control of the State Party as well, since the Chair and the 1st Vice Chair resigned/refused to fulfill their duties.
It started at nine and I needed to get there early enough to sign in and register as a delegate, so that meant getting on the road at six for a solid two+ hour drive.
Quickly did my morning routine and slapped together the bare bones of a post, got everything ready, got some gas, and got on the road. To be honest, some of the drive was quite fun. The route took me through some solid farm country and it was good to see some of the state I hadn’t seen before.
Got there on time and got signed in. Was disappointed to see only sixty-seven delegates. More than half the party wasn’t there…all pouting because we removed the statement from the platform that bigots are bad. So stupid. It’s no virtue to take a stand on something that goes without saying and saying that it goes without saying isn’t promoting it. The party just doesn’t want to be involved with all the identity politics and name calling…anyone you disagree with is a “bigot” these days.
Suffice it to say, having driven more than two hours to get there and facing another two hour drive back, I only stayed for an hour of the business. It was a complete and utter travesty, a power grab, and the party let it happen. 🤬🤬🤬
They threw out Robert’s Rules, disregarded the Bylaws, and voted in a 1st Vice Chair unopposed and with only twenty minutes notice who then immediately became the Chair of the Party. I couldn’t remain any longer after that since participation in the voting would have meant tacit assent that they were valid votes.
I’m now inquiring as to the procedure for challenging the votes. I have a strong feeling I will be stonewalled and will have to go to the National Party (which I’m already considering at least letting them know what happened yesterday anyway). You can’t just ignore the Bylaws because fifty people vote to. We are bound by the procedures set forth (comprehensive as they may or may not be).
So, upset and frustrated, I did the drive back home. 😢 In some sense it was a blessing, though. I had basically written the whole day off as far as getting any work done upstairs and was relying on whatever Wenche could get done on her own. But I was home plenty early enough to get several hours worth done. 💪
We’re in pretty good shape now and should hopefully be able to get the rest done tomorrow [today], but we’ll see how it goes. Will be nice to have it completely gutted and cleaned out and ready to rebuild finally! 🥳 (or you could say the work has only just started 😛)
We had some shower time after 😉 and then Wenche made us pasta and meat sauce for dinner. So, ultimately, despite more than four hours of driving for little purpose I still had a fairly productive day; especially nice since I’d thought it would be lost to the aether. 👍
Need to do some prep for teaching on Monday as well, not going to be able to just wing it the whole way like I normally do, I don’t think…we need to cover parametric and polar calculus, so it’s pretty dense material. I’ve looked it over quickly already, but need to spend some time on that too…when it rains it pours, right?
Wow! No crime or crises in my dShitty today! 😲 Got a whole seventy SIM! Only like three hundred less than it should be, but it’s not quite as shitty as it has been at least.
Had some drunk fans on Rising Star yesterday so just kept with missions, but now they’re expired I did have one percent Ego, so it’s lessons for now.
Been since Wednesday now that HashKings has been sitting there idle. 😡 There was no chance today, though.
Never got around even to going in to claim my SPS drop on Splinterlands, let alone play. To be honest, still haven’t taken care of that, but I did go in this morning and I got one of the airdrop cards! 😁👍
Didn’t even think about Wordle until just now. I guess I’m getting pretty close to giving up on this section of my post.
