I was happy to cross paths with this beautiful Common Buckeye butterfly which is in the Brush-footed Butterfly family. The Viceroy, Red-Spotted Purple, American Lady and Fritillaries are just some of the other butterflies that are in the same family as the Common Buckeye aka Junonia coenia.
It was a great day when I happened upon this butterfly as it was one of several butterflies that I saw on this particular visit to Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County, Maryland. Eventually, I want to do a post featuring all the ones I photographed on this visit.
I only wish that I was able to photograph the underside of the Common Buckeye but the more I tried to inch closer the more it moved just a little further away. So, after getting a few shots in, I thanked my lucky stars (and the butterfly) for the photos that I did get and left this beautiful butterfly and went on my way. 馃槉
Speaking of being thankful...thank you very much to @whatisnew for #butterflyday!!
