In WJM, a high velocity jet of water is impinged on the workpiece, which pierces the material and performs slitting operation.
Recently a development in WJM is done, which is called Hydro-dynamic Jet Machining (HJM) which is used for all types of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and alloys.

Parameters in HJM:-

  1. Size of workpiece should be larger than the diameter of jet.
  2. Pressure of water is from 2100 kg per cm square to 3500 kg per cm square.
  3. The mixing chamber is made of hard and wear resistant material like carbide.
  4. Gap of 0.5 Mm is kept between workpiece and the nozzle.

Advantages of HJM:-

  1. Water is cheap, non toxic and easily available.
  2. Any workpiece of whatever hardness can be cut.
  3. This method does not create heat.
  4. Less maintenance as no moving parts are present.
