In WJM, a high velocity jet of water is impinged on the workpiece, which pierces the material and performs slitting operation.
Recently a development in WJM is done, which is called Hydro-dynamic Jet Machining (HJM) which is used for all types of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and alloys.
Parameters in HJM:-
- Size of workpiece should be larger than the diameter of jet.
- Pressure of water is from 2100 kg per cm square to 3500 kg per cm square.
- The mixing chamber is made of hard and wear resistant material like carbide.
- Gap of 0.5 Mm is kept between workpiece and the nozzle.
Advantages of HJM:-
- Water is cheap, non toxic and easily available.
- Any workpiece of whatever hardness can be cut.
- This method does not create heat.
- Less maintenance as no moving parts are present.
