Hello, thank you for stopping by!

Today I am wondering what you all think about defending your own home against armed intruders. Probably, I know the opinion from the USA. I think they are allowed to shoot the intruder. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It's different in my country. You are allowed to use 'reasonable force' to eject the intruder and, if they are armed, you can use a weapon too. Not a gun though. Guns are not allowed in my country.

When it happened to me, the intruder was armed with a crowbar that he had used to break in my front door. He must have thought the property was empty as I was in bed reading with the light low. I heard him breaking in and quickly got up. When he came in my room, I charged at him shouting for him to go without thinking anything but I wanted him out. He shouted, 'Oh shit!' and then he ran away so I didn't need to use any force but my loud teacher's voice.

To me, the confusion arises in my country, with the phrase 'reasonable force'. Surely it is a matter of opinion what is reasonable?

What is the situation in your country? What do you think?
