One of my father's best and most influential friends got up every day, looked in the mirror, and said, "I'm gonna beat YOU today!" I remembered that. He was among the kindest and most loving men I ever knew, and the most no-nonsense when it came to mentoring men ... and his first name was Hamilton. His personality accounts for quite a bit of Major Hamilton and Colonel Lee and even a general I haven't rolled into the never-ending story for a while -- Maj. Hamilton's uncle best accounts for this person from whom I learned while very young: everybody's main problem looks them in the mirror every morning.

It's still a journey of maturation to LEARNING and ACCEPTING that truth, though ... but as you say, the truth is love.
