Brake system in automotive engineering is a system that serves to reduce vehicle speed, stop the vehicle that is running, keep the vehicle stays.

The main components in the brake system consist of brake pedals or brake levers, booster, and master cylinder, braking lines or lines, drum brakes or disc brakes.

The drum brake is a drum brake whose drum is opened. Brake drum is a brake work on the basis of friction between the brake shoe with the drum that spins with the wheel rotation of the vehicle. This brake works by clamping discs that are usually mounted on the wheels of the vehicle, to clamp discs used caliper driven by the piston to push brake shoes (brake pads) to the disc. This type of brake is also used on trains, motorcycles, bicycles.

On race cars the materials used are usually of ceramic to be more resistant to heat generated during the braking process.
