Digital asset regulation in Canada had been notoriously tight with multiple companies either pausing or withdrawing their services from the country.

In May, Binance said, it was withdrawing from Canada, weeks after the country issued a series of new guidelines for cryptocurrency exchanges including investor limits and mandatory registrations, as reported by Reuters.

Justin Trudeau has attacked his opponents for their pro crypto veiws before. Canada’s Conservative Party leader, Pierre Poilievre, is a Bitcoin enthusiast—and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not a fan.

Speaking in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, on Monday, Trudeau criticized his new political rival for his “irresponsibility” in promoting cryptocurrencies to his followers, according to Decrypt.

According to a report, a group of thirty Canadian lawmakers have published a report endorsing blockchain technology and crypto and presented 16 recommendations for the government in the country to create a strategy on national on the matter.

The report recommend the Canadian government to recognize blockchain as an emerging technology in Canada, with significant long-term economic and job creation opportunities.

The lawyers in the report called for a policy guided by principles of self custody, and the access to platforms - on-ramps or off-ramp, such as exchanges that allow converting Fiat to crypto must be protected.

The report also is said to recommending the support and foster crypto mining operations in the country.

According to the lawmakers, Canada has fallen behind United States and European Union in its progress towards establishing regulations for crypto.
