Why do we need cakes when we celebrate birthday or anniversary? Almost every year we celebrate our birthday, anniversary or baby full moon with cake, candles, song, ballon. Have you ever wonder where did all these traditions start? Who thought it would be a good idea to stick flaming candles on top?
In 1980, most parents in my village, like to set up huge birthday party for kids who turn one. Many kids and parents will come to celebrate it together. The famous cake that time, of course, the buttercream cake. Kids so happy and many gifts from families and friends. Not only that, so many choices of delicious foods and drinks.
Nowadays is it still necessary to celebrate with cake? Well, for me cake is not a must but cake can bring us joy by singing a song together and eating it together.
My parents used to buy a cake for us every birthday. Even though it was a simple celebration but it was so meaningful. My parents cook delicious food and we will have a dinner together. After dinner, we will sing the birthday song loudly and eat it together. The tradition keeps going until now.
My daughter, niece, and nephew also loves cake so much. Actually, they don't like to eat cake so much. They get excited when seeing the cake because they know they will blow the candle and sing the birthday song. My daughter is a big fan of chocolate cake. She doesn't like to eat something cheesy.
My family not only have a cake for our birthday, we also order a cake for an anniversary or simply to eat it because of we craving to eat it.
A few days ago, my friends told me, her niece and nephew is not excited when she brings out the cake for her daughter birthday party celebration. They busy playing games on the phone. Her story makes me think, kids nowadays are different from my childhood era.
A cake is not a must in every celebration, but it is how we celebrate it.
