In a nice visit I made to the town of Araya in the municipality of Cruz Salmerón Acosta in the state of Sucre, I was able to collect some very interesting and historical photographs that lead us to memorize and emphasize our history and how it was a little about the protection of countries.

Here I show you these beautiful images of the ruins of the fortress of Santiago de León de Araya located in Venezuela, built in the year 1625, better known by its inhabitants and surroundings as the "Castle of Araya". It was built with the purpose of defending the Araya Salt Mines from the Dutch, French and English, this due to the possible invasion of people to our territory to remove art from what belongs to us, in its construction was used a very resistant material as a block of mortar to protect all around and part of the population in which they were living part of the defenders of that era, but due to an earthquake in 1684 it caused a lot of damage, then a hurricane in 1725 that completely flooded the fortress, by then the governor of Cumana Joseph Diguja asked for its destruction as he considered it already useless.

In the year 1762 the castle is destroyed, being destroyed for the defense. Then in 1960, the president of Venezuela Rómulo Betancourt decreed it a National Historic Monument to the Araya Castle, since then until today it has been at the service of the community and is a great fortress for its visitors, the ruins that remain give it a quite old touch and full of much history.

The castle of Araya is currently in ruins and is considered a national historical monument, are part of a tourist attraction in the state of Sucre, particularly the town of Araya, so tourists and visitors do not stop enjoying taking pictures, watching the sea, and a spectacular sunset from the top of these ruins.
