Greetings to all my friends of this beautiful community such as Music, this is my first time sharing content here with you and for this reason I would like to share with you a fragment of a beautiful song dedicated to OshĂșn or La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre as it is well known in the ecclesiastical religion, demonstrating the marked syncretism existing here in Cuba.
It all began to develop during the colonial period, especially from the 16th century onwards, with the arrival of the Spanish colonizers and the importation of African slaves. The mixture of indigenous beliefs, Catholicism imposed by the colonizers and African traditions resulted in the formation of syncretic religious practices.
This has profoundly influenced its music by fusing African rhythms and traditions with European elements, creating unique genres such as son, salsa and rumba. Santeria and other Afro-Cuban practices have introduced complex rhythms and the use of instruments such as the batĂĄ drum, which are essential in religious ceremonies as well as in popular music. The lyrics often reflect spiritual themes and tributes to the orishas, establishing a link between the sacred and the profane. In addition, improvisation, characteristic of African traditions, has enriched Cuban musical expression. This cultural mix has given rise to a sonic diversity that continues to evolve and resonate in the island's musical identity.
For these reasons I have decided to make this small fragment of a song to OshĂșn "the Patroness of all Cubans" in honor of our ancestors and all the religious and musical legacy that they have left and persists in our island.
Here is a picture of my OshĂșn as a member of the Yoruba religion that I am.
Espero que les guste , Saludos a todos.
I hope you like it, Greetings to all.
