Here is another post on Britain's Habitats, this time we are looking at Lowland Heath. If you like this post and haven't read any of my other posts in this series you may like Calcareous Grassland, Hard Cliff & Cliff Slope and Salt Marsh also I will answer an important Question.

Why Post about Britain's Habitats ?

Britain contains a great diversity of wildlife habitats within it's small area, ranging from fragrant bluebells woods to upland heathland to coastal seabird islands to the tops of the highest mountains. Many have been influenced by human activity but this has created unique habitats in itself, like hedgerows, sheep grazed chalk downlands, cattle grazed heathland and even the biggest cities have pockets of wilderness hidden within them and to me Britain is a gem that most people over look for bigger, warmer and more exciting places abroad because Britain's is boring.

We may not have luscious tropical rainforests but we do have Caledonian Forest which is unique in its self as it is only found in Britain and has it's own unique wildlife within it, Chalk grassland is only found in north-west Europe, and a significant proportion of this is in Southern England, Britain and Ireland also holds a greater proportion of Atlantic Oak Woodland than the rest of Europe ,Britain also holds one fifth of the worlds total of Lowland Heath. All of these habitats are rare and threatened and are important. So instead of going abroad to see greener, warmer pastures just take some time to look and learn whats on your own doorstep, I'll tell you something Britain's is not boring.
