My Actifit RC: June 20th 23 - Alive sightseeing in hidden gems- IAAC #381
A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.
The day of June 20 passes fast between suffocating heat and scorching sun.
Tourists move quickly trying to stay away from the direct rays of the sun in places sheltered from the heat.
Reached Piazza Nicola Amore by subway I go back to Piazza Garibaldi.
At the entrance of the notorious Forcella district of Corso Umberto there is the church of Santa Maria Egiziaca in Forcella.
Built in 1342 as a place where prostitutes retired to monastic life to repent and redeem themselves from their bad life was redesigned first by Gabriele d'Agnolo and then by the magnificent architect and sculptor Dionisio Lazzari.
This ecclesiastical building is another pearl of the Italian cultural heritage in which the dream team of Neapolitan art gave its best enclosing in the small ellipse in the center of Corso Umberto an incredible number of works of art.
In the center of the altar is the Communion of Saint Mary Egiziaca by Andrea Vaccaro a majestic canvas with depictions of considerable scenic impact and in which the artist exalted the beauty of the figure of the holy woman.
On the sides there are two masterpieces by Luca Giordano, the conversion and the flight of the Saint into the desert. Paintings always referable to the life of Saint Mary of Egypt.
Another detail of remarkable quality are the four beautiful organs that the church has.
On the walls it is difficult to find free spaces that are not frescoed with works of great pictorial quality. Works from which it is difficult to look away to think of something else
The side chapels built in perfect Neapolitan Baroque style all have paintings of great artistic value cultural sign that this church inspired great feelings to the artists who worked there among which There were Solimena, Paolo de Matteis, Luca Giordano and Andrea Vaccaro.
And so my #iamalivechallenge 381 took us to a beautiful stage of our artistic tour of Naples in a church that has survived almost a millennium of history and the rehabilitation of Corso Umberto.
