Dear men, as you protect yourself, protect your woman too.
We live in a world where we are constantly told to protect ourselves mostly in my country Nigeria.
Lock your doors.
Guard your heart.
Protect your energy.
Protect your peace.
Secure your bag.
And it's very valid because self-protection is important and highly recommendable.
But I have been seriously thinking about this lately. As we are protecting ourselves, who is protecting our women?
As you are building walls around yourself so nobody hurts you, have you thought about the woman next to you who also needs protection?
As you walk fast at night because you want to be safe, have you noticed the other lady walking alone who is also scared?
We talk a lot about self-love these days, but we have forgotten sisterhood.
Dear young man, protect a sister too.
If you see a lady being harassed in a bus, on the street, in the office, don't just look away because it's not your business. Speak up.
That could be your sister.
If a friend tells you she is not safe in her relationship, don't tell her to manage it, that's how marriage is, protect her and help her out.
If a young girl in your workplace is being taken advantage of because she is new and naive, protect her. The way you wish someone had protected you when you were starting. Dnt be greedy with security.
If another woman is being slut-shamed, body-shamed, or dragged online, don't join the comment section to laugh, protect her. Because tomorrow it could be your sister.
Protection is not only a man's job.
Yes, we want protection from men and many good men do. But are the women protecting themselves?
You as a sister, are you a sister's keeper too?
I have learned that real strength is not just in how well I protect myself, but in how willing I am to protect another human when they cannot protect themselves.
So today, as you oil your body, wear your perfume, secure your money, and guard your heart, also remember to look to your left and right, there is a woman there who needs the same protection you are giving yourself.
Remember this always, as you are protecting yourself, protect her too.
Let's be each other's keeper.
What does protection mean to you as a woman? Is it physical, emotional, or financial?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
